Dr. Frauke Zeller and Dr. David Harris Smith (McMaster University) have been invited to be part of a team developing “Spaceball”, a spherical social robot for the International Space Station.  Spaceball is conceptualized as interacting socially with the astronauts, monitoring the environment, and performing simple routines on command in space.  A team of McMaster graduate and undergraduate students will work on the project alongside teams at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences, German Sport University Cologne, Ryerson University, and Airbus Space and Defence.  The invitation to participate in the Spaceball project comes based on the recent success of Zeller and Harris Smith’s Hitchbot endeavour.
